How does hazelcast work with openfire?

In our process of testing the new hazelcast plugin 1.2.0 with openfire 3.9.1 we tried to bring down openfire service of one of the nodes. I have three nodes. Node1 is stand alone, Node2 (with the last stanza IP 160) and Node3 (with the last stanza IP 159) are a cluster.

I setup the server to server communication between Node and and the Node2/3 Cluster. I noticed the following:

On Node1 I have usr1, Node2 usr2 and Node3 usr3. I noticed that usr2 and usr3 were recognized as usr2@node3 and usr3@node3. Why?

When I shut down the openfire service of Node3, the server to server communication between Node1 and the cluster was lost. When I shut down Node2 instead the server to server communication worked fine. I was surprised by that. I was expecting the server to server communication to stay up.

Initially I though it has something to do with which Node was recognized as the older Node but after restarting the nodes in different sequence i ruled that out.

I also noticed that after a few shut down of the openfire services the openfire admin console displayed the following exception when I treid to access Server Sessions:
